A Data-Driven Approach to Infer Dynamics of Droplets in High-Speed Propulsion Systems at Hypersonic Speeds
Speaker:
Professor Gustaaf Jacobs, San Diego State University
Abstract:
This research focuses on improving the modeling of fuel particle mixing in turbulent gas flows, which is critical for the efficiency of hypersonic propulsion systems. Since simulating every particle directly is computationally infeasible, the study uses macro-scale and statistical mechanics-based models to describe the stochastic dynamics of volumeless particles. The randomness in these systems naturally aligns with data-driven and machine learning approaches for learning dynamics from limited data. In collaboration with Prof. Wang (SDSU) and Prof. Tartakovsky (Stanford), these generalized techniques have shown promise across various fields beyond engineering.
